1. Determine how you want to be perceived on social media. Always remember that the way you represent yourself online will reflect on you want to represent yourself in person.
2. You are what you post. Whether its an Instagram pic or a tweet, your name and face is right behind your post. Make sure that you whatever you put out there is exactly what you are trying to say and always remember that people will be judging you on what you post.
3. Know your privacy settings. If there is anything you want to be kept away from the public view but still want to have tied to any of your social media accounts, make sure you know how to work around that. Attached in another post will be some YouTube videos on how to know your way around your privacy settings in some of the more popular social media sites.
4. Take your online presence and digital footprint seriously. Whatever you put on to the web is out there and will stay out there FOREVER. Regardless of any deactivation or deletion, anyone who had access to a post could have preserved it through screen capture or other means (not to mention that most things deleted off of social media cites can be recovered).
5. Google Yourself. It might sound funny but regulating what comes up when you Google yourself (accounts, images, etc) can help you keep track of how you are representing yourself online
